Training Ride!

Derek and I just completed our very first training ride!

The ride started at the Second Cup in Royal Oak. The route took us around all the "rich people's" quasi-acreages in the area. We did 25 kms in one hour and 7 minutes, with an average speed of 22.68 (mine). Both of us are currently battling colds, and I was very congested today, which was not fun, but didn't seem to hurt our ability too much.

We were both surprised at how easy it was, and next time would do the "expert-lite" group, going 50 kms. We did get a route map for the expert group and are planning on doing it sometime in the near future. Overall, it was a pretty easy ride, no big hills, little traffic, and though it was very cold and windy (10 degrees!), it was bearable.

The highlight of my ride was when a lady on a road bike I was playing leap frog with noted, "I can't believe how fast you go on your mountain bike!". Derek and I were within the first 10 or so riders from our group, and I was the only one on a mountain bike with knobby tires!

Derek said it right when he noted that this ride made him "worry less about biking 200 kms and more worried about raising $2500.00!"

So, on that note: Thanks again to Robin and Fran, who have already supported me... And to those of you who haven't, please take this opportunity to sponsor me in the Ride to Conquer Cancer 2010! Every little bit counts, but I would be tickled if I could get at least 1% ($25.00) from everyone I know. Doing this first training ride has helped cement to myself that I am going to be able to do this, and your support will just get me that much closer to my goal.

So, please visit my fundraising website at:

or Derek's at:

and donate today!

(Alternatively, you can print off a donation form and mail a cheque, or if you see me in person you can give me cash or a cheque.)

Thanks again for your support!

Teri :)
